The Making Shit Up Museum

Anyone yet visited the new, $27M delusionland known as the Creation Museum?
Bad Astronomy alerts us to a planned peaceful protest by rationalists.

According to the NYT, the museum includes "a planetarium paying tribute to God’s glory while exploring the nature of galaxies." Now, sure, the point of a planetarium show is to revel in the vast, beautiful complexity of our Universe. But how can you show a photo of ANY other galaxy yet claim the universe is only 6K yrs old? Our nearest neighbor, the LMC, is ~150,000 light-years away -- if the creationists are right, we can't photograph it, because the light hasn't arrived yet! Let alone every other, more distant galaxy in the Universe.

A hit, a very palpable hit!

But you assume that these people's (i.e. Creation Museum staff's) three brain cells can connect linearly to make a logical thought.

But what blows my mind is, faith doesn't seem to be enough for them -- they need to spend $27M to prop up their creation myth with faked evidence.

One idea: these people are so afraid of encountering (or having their children encounter) someone or something that doesn't agree with their faith (i.e. a traditional science museum) that they have to create a "safe place" of their own to not deal with those ideas.

But you're forgetting what a devious bastard these people's God is! He put a shell of light at 6000 light-years out, coming to fill our telescopes, and there's nothing out there at all. Expect it to run out about the time the Horsemen start riding...
