Schrödinger equation: the tattoo

Location: Denver Airport, hour-long security line.

Equation: Schrödinger's.

The gentleman looked surprised, but said OK when I stopped him and asked for a photo. There wasn't time to get the back-story....

I was in an REU once with a guy who had E /psi = H /psi tattooed on his arm. He was a chemist, actually, which made it even cooler.

You get a tattoo of Schrodinger's equation, and then you're surprised that someone wants to snap a picture?

It wasn't a high-quality tattoo, but my phone photo was unfairly unflattering. Sorry, tattoo dude!

Dr. Dave: I suspect that any stories invented about the tattoo's origins are better than the truth. Please, invent away.

I, for example, am envisioning "Copenhagen" vs. "Many-Worlds" prison gangs, singing geeky lyrics to West Side Story.

Sean: People always seem surprised when attention is called to nerd accoutrements. I think they underestimate the # of nerds out there....
